CS Course in the commerce domain is one of the most popular choices amongst commerce students. However, students of all fields can apply to this course. Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) offers Company Secretary Course. With the right mix of academic programmes and practical training, the programme opens up great opportunities in the corporate sector.

Company secretary deals with the legal activities of any business. The role of a company secretary is to keep the records, advice, tax returns and evaluate the legal aspects of the organization. Company secretary is a traditional positioned as the support of the board of directors and administrative staff. But now the business strategy has been changed and the role of the CS has been expanded.

Students must have appeared or passed 10+2 examination are equivalent.

The CSEET Exam Consisting of 4 Papers:

Mode of Exam: Computer Based Exam conducted online from home. Students need to attempt all 4 papers.

Exam Period: The CSEET Exam is conducted four times in a year. The January exam has a registration deadline of Dec 15th of pervious year, The May exam has a registration deadline of Apr 15th, The July exam has a registration deadline of July 15th, and the November exam has a registration deadline of Oct 15th.

Exam Pattern: (100% Objective) (No Negative Marks)

Pass Criteria: Students need to score a minimum of 40% in each paper and an aggregate of 50% in all papers to pass.

The CSEET Structure is consisting of 4 Papers:

Paper 1 – Business Communication 

Paper 2 – Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning 

Paper 3 – Economic and Business Environment

Paper 4 – Current Affairs & Quantative Aptitude

To appear for the CS Executive Exam, a student must meet one of the following criteria

Cleared CSEET: The candidate should have cleared the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET).

Graduates/Post Graduates: Candidates who are graduates or postgraduates in any discipline (excluding Fine Arts) are also eligible to register directly for the CS Executive Examination.

The CS Executive Exam is divided into two modules consisting of 7 Papers:

Mode of Exam: Written Exam conducted offline at ICSI approved centres. Students need to attempt at least one module.

Exam Period: The CS Executive Exam is conducted twice a year. The June exam has a registration deadline of January 31st, and the December exam has a registration deadline of July 31st.

Exam Pattern: 100% Descriptive

Pass Criteria: Students need to score a minimum of 40% in each paper and an aggregate of 50% in all papers in a module to pass

The CS Executive Structure is divided into two modules consisting of 7 Papers:

Module 1

Paper 1 – Jurisprudence, Interpretation & General Laws

Paper 2 – Company Law & Practice

Paper 3 – Setting Up of Business, Industrial & Labour Laws

Paper 4 – Corporate Accounting & Financial Management

Module 2

Paper 5 – Capital Market & Securities Laws

Paper 6 – Economic, Commercial & Intellectual Property Laws

Paper 7 – Tax Laws and Practice

To appear for the CS Professional exam, student must meet the following criteria:

Cleared CSEET & CS Executive: The candidate should have cleared the CSEET and CS Executive exams.

The CS Professional Exam is divided into two modules consisting of 8 Papers and 1 elective:

Mode of Exam: Written Exam conducted offline at ICSI approved centres. Students need to attempt at least one module.

Exam Period: The CS Executive Exam is conducted twice a year June and December. 

Exam Pattern: 100% Descriptive

Pass Criteria: Students need to score a minimum of 40% in each paper and an aggregate of 50% in all papers in a module to pass.

The CS Professional Structure is divided into three modules consisting of 8 Papers and 1 elective:

Module 1

Paper 1 – Governance, Risk Management, Compliances and Ethics

Paper 2 – Advanced Tax Laws

Paper 3 – Drafting, Pleadings and Appearances

Module 2

Paper 4 – Secretarial Audit

Paper 5 – Corporate Restructuring

Paper 6 – Resolution of Corporate Disputes

Module 3

Paper 7 –Corporate Funding & Listings in Stock Exchanges

Paper 8 – Multidisciplinary Case Studies

Electives 1 out of below 8 subjects

9.1. Banking Law and Practice
